To be a nomad one must travel light. In the high Atlas Mountains this can prove to be a conundrum, as the sundown without movement will cast a cold chill. So the Zanafi tribespeople weave flat wool rugs that are at once lightweight and insulating. They are used to sleep on, to sit on, to wrap around oneself.  Wool inhibits heat transfer; in the mountains this creates a barrier between cool earth and warm bodies. In the desert it will keep the hot sand from burning. Simple patterning is an expression of the weaver, but not so intricate as to take too long to create. For a nomad, the movement must always continue.
