Vintage Red Kilim
Eastern Anatolian, mid 20th century, authentic and village made. This gorgeous one-of-a-kind kilim is full of delicate handwork and nomadic imagery. It has strong protection motifs. Made of hand-spun wool and dyed with natural dyes. Rugs like this read like books, with each section like a new chapter. Zig-Zag water and triangle mountainous motifs represent survival, endurance and journey. In nomadic life water was sacred and symbolic of the flow of life. Hook shapes within the triangular forms can represent rams horns for protection, or hooks to repel the evil eye. In folklore they act as spiritual barbed wire to "catch" harmful forces before they enter the home.
